Aru si usa per cose o piante Iru per persone o animali
Così come li trovate Aru e Iru sono alla forma presente piana, quindi quella informale. La forma cortese presente è la seguente: Arimasu あります Imasu います
La forma piana negativa è per entrambi i verbi nai ない。 La forma negativa cortese è: Arimasen ありません Imasen いません
La forma piana al passato è: Atta あった Ita いた
La forma cortese al passato è: Arimashita ありました Imashita いました
La forma piana negativa al passato è: nakatta なかった inakatta いなかった
